Bone Bridge Pins

By Old Hoss from Loudon, TN
(Customer's Reviews) Sunday, August 18, 2013

I put them on my solid rosewood guitars and the tone improved quite a bit. It added sparkle to the high end by improving high end harmonic overtones. It improved volume and single note clarity as well. I already put on a bone saddle from Stew Mac and from my ears bone adds a lot to the sound, but bridge pins don't affect the sound as much with a Tusq saddle, since the sound of the wood doesn't come out as well. I just hear the ringing of the strings with Tusq, but hear the richness of the wood with bone saddle and pins. In my opinion, a bone saddle, nut and bridge pins gives a much better overall tone, and should be the first thing you do with any rosewood guitar. For guitars with a shape or wood that makes it lacking in bass response, after putting on a bone saddle, I recommend rosewood bridge pins to add richness in the bass. Ebony bridge pins also adds richness and clear trebles, but not quite the sparkle of the bone. So the bottom line is get rid of plastic and synthetic bridge pins and select bridge pins based on what part of the tone you need to improve: Bone for overall richness and high end sparkle, rosewood for richness and bass, and ebony for richness and to improve mid to upper range tones.

Get the pin hole reamer to make sure they make perfect contact with the bridge though.

What can i say, they are bridge pins. Much nicer than the plastic ones that came with the guitar and fit my Gibson perfectly.

nice and great with some diy dye

These pins are nice. I installed them in my latest om21. The pin is slighty oversize so it didn't sit fully in the slots and slightly higher than ori. Personally think that is alright since the ori pins dont sit perfectly too. Good sustain and significant increase in volume. I have dye them 6 hours in dark coffee to have some dirty stain. And they now looks more natural.

two shaded bone bridge pins

i would have given this a five star if only i received 6pins of the same shade. unfortunately, i got 3pcs of a darker shade and 3 pcs of a whiter shade. Looks wrong!
I understand this is bone, but the guy who packed this set should atleast selected roughly the same shade. doesnt matter which shade to me though.
Aside from the aesthetic issue, fits perfectly on my acoustic guitar!

beautiful pins

These pins come with beautiful pearl white color. I'm regretted not to ask stewmac to pick up those with yellow stain. I prefer those uneven color than pearl white. But it is okay since I can dye it. I had dye my set with coffee so it give it a little bit of vintage look.

Again Bridge pins too long

Shame beacause the pins are very nice and do sound nice but they're sticking out like so many others have mentionned.... Would have expected a better fit for standard Dreadnaught.

Bone Bridge Pins

By Chris W Graham from Ottawa, Ont
(Customer's Reviews) Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Just received my new bone bridge pins. Replaced the plastic ones in my new Gibson J45 Custom Shop(why Gibson persists in putting plastic pins on a guitar of this caliber is still beyond me...but I digress). Because the J45 is a 1960's re-issue it has a great vintage vibe and these pins were just what the Dr. ordered. Fast and efficient delivery from Stewmac. Believe this is the beginning of a long and expensive relationship...maybe a set of Waverly's next?

Irregular sizes

By SoniC ox from San Diego

I recently acquired a cool Recording King Troubadour Limited Edition guitar with a bone saddle and nut but plastic bridge pins. I ordered this set to dress up the guitar and bring the pins up to the quality of the saddle and nut. The new pins are beautiful but I had to sand four out of the six to make them fit properly. I love the look but I don't know if the tone changed much. These are pretty expensive for bridge pins and I expected the size to be consistent.
