Ashton Bailey Mandolin Tailpiece

About This Item

Simple, sturdy and elegant. Won't bend or rattle. Easy to restring!

A distinctive modern alternative for archtop mandolins, made from a rigid one-piece casting for bend-free stability. Many players find the extra weight of this design enhances sustain. There's no cover to loosen or rattle, and the integral string mounting posts make loop-end string installation fast and easy. The base is contoured for a snug fit against the curved edge of the instrument. Screws and metal strap button included.

Before installing this tailpiece as a replacement, note that the mounting holes don't match traditional Gibson screw spacing, and the strap button is screw-mounted.

nice upgrade for my mandolin

It is a fine tailpiece and certainly much nicer than the tin piece of garbage that is usually used, and quite frankly what I've had on it since I built it in "85. I'm most always impressed with Stew Mac service... I do rate the product as excellent...though I may make my own a little more closely looking like the traditional shape, especially on the area that mounts to the mandolin...

A much better mousetrap......

After years of cursing the standard tailpieces I bought one of these. While I probably wouldn't alter a vintage mando in my case there was no hardware and quite a bit of re-building so I tried it. HUGE improvement in tone and much easier to string. I would, however suggest a larger screw for the strap button. The one that came with the unit barely holds the button and pulled loose almost immediately. I added a bigger button and larger screw. It's still a great addition.

.I have a stock tailpiece and the cover has cracked and chipped like tin foil..the loop end string tines break at inopportune times and if I leave covers on to prevent this, they are a pain to remove when changing a broken string not to mention buzzing if cover is not muted by leather or pipecleaner pieces...The Ashton Bailey takes care of all my mandolin woes.
