Waverly Ukulele Tuners

About This Item

Legendary precision, now for ukes! Unique Waverlys that fit right, look great, and bring precise tuning to fine ukuleles.

Waverlys with shorter, uke-length string posts
Luthiers and talented players no longer have to settle for ill-fitting guitar machines in sets that leave two unused tuners, or for off-the-shelf uke tuners that sacrifice performance for economy. Now you can have the same acclaimed reliability, smoothness and precision that make Waverly tuners the first choice of top luthiers for their best instruments.

Smoother, more efficient tuning. Waverly's renowned 16:1 gear mechanism is second to none. Waverly tuners feature a proven, precisely machined design ensuring accurate, efficient gear alignment. Nylon worm gear bushings enhance the smooth feel. The result: looseness is eliminated—your instrument plays in tune and stays in tune.

Longer life with less wear. Waverly's stainless steel worm gear and machined bronze alloy string post gear are more durable than the brass gears used in other tuners.

    Details:
  • Choice of beautifully polished knobs: curly koa, solid ebony, or grained ivoroid
  • Sturdy steel baseplates with authentic 1930s footprint
  • String posts are 1.01" x .236"-diameter brass (25.7mm x 6.0mm) to fit solid ukulele pegheads up to 9/16" (14.3mm) thick
  • Press-fit brass bushings fit 21/64"-diameter (8.3mm) pegholes
  • Mounting screws included
  • Set of 4: 2-left/2-right

Installation Tips

Bushings: Get the right fit! Use our slow-speed #2062 Bushing Reamer (0.340" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore for a professional job.

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1714 Depth-stop Drill Bit (3/32" bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Meh...

I have used waverly tuners a few times on my ukes in the past. I have had issues with sharp edges on the post hole cutting the string. It makes me look bad when I convince my client to upgrade to these tuners at a much higher cost than the Grovers just to have problems with them. The chrome has a pitted finish, I think the cheap grover tuners have a nicer chrome. The worst of all is the posts are very sloppy in the bushings. Tune up the uke and there is a large gap between the post and bushing. I will be looking for alternatives at this price range. I will say that they do have a smooth tuning.

Response from StewMac

I love Waverly tuners - have put them on my Gretsch repro dobro, and my gibson acoustics - but lately as I start building my own instruments I have chosen these lovely tuners to distract from my so-so luthier work. SWEET! they make my work look better.

I put these on my pro G String Concert Uke. It was a really nice upgrade and makes a giant improvement to the instrument overall.

Waverly Ukulele Tuner Upgrade

By

The Waverly tuners added to my Pono all mango ukulele as a replacement for the Grover geared tuners that came stock. The grovers had black plastic buttons, but were not what I wanted on the instrument. The Waverly curly Koa tuners were just what I needed to finish off my instrument. The tuners fit in place and were easily installed. All I needed was to fill a hole and make one a few millimeters away and I was done. I re-strung the instrument, and was playing in about an hour. Beauty, ease of installation, ease of use, quality, accuracy all equate to me playing more and getting better. And I can't leave out the fact that the upgrade created a bit of Uke envy. Thanks Stew Mac...

Great tuners but wrong suggested bushing reamer

Great tuning machines, Smooth and accurate. It suggests the #2061.328 bushing reamer but the bushing measurement is .340 I used the #2062 .340 reamer and it works like a charm.

For use on ukes, I feel that the posts are too long. The mechanism itself is excellent but the cost is high in comparison to other tuners. Tom

Waverly, why bother with others?

By

(I don't work for Waverly and I am not an endorsee) . In my opinion, they are by far the best tuners. I had the Gotoh UPT on my uke and switched to Waverly. More playing time less tuning time. It is that simple. They are more costly but, I can't afford my instrument to be out of tune. I have replaced the tuners on my epiphone and les paul. Do yourself and others ears a favor...Waverly. That is all!
