Didn't fit my Dobro without modification

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I have a 1979 Dobro 60DS. I assumed (incorrectly) that it would fit my Dobro. Ignorance on my part, but it would have been nice if Stew-Mac pointed out it will not fit an OMI instrument (and possibly others). On the plus side, there was a marked improvement in tone. I don't know if I would automatically spend $70 on a new cone but the threaded insert on my (original) cone was messed up so I pretty much had to replace it....and opted for a "better" one rather than just a $13 Chinese replacement. Bottom line, I don't regret the purchase but I'm also smarter as a result.

Wow!

I put this in my old Rogue Dobro that was rattling. I had considered buying a new dobro, but this and the Replogle spider bridge took care of all the problems. Did require a little dremel work to fit, but that was easy.

Brings out tonal clarity, especially up the neck

Put this in any FR50 that comes in or anywhere near your shop. Sounds great and is a massive improvement over the stock cone. Better highs and cleaner lows, but the same over all volume.

Totally worth the money!

I upgraded my Hound Dog Deluxe Squareneck with this cone and it really sounds great. The sound is warm and rich and it delivers a nice punch and lots of volume. The replacement is straight forward, just follow the instructions found on the website. Keep in mind that the cone is very delicate, be careful when you install it.

I expected more.

By

I bought and installed the Beard cone and based on the reviews here, was expecting some sort of religious-like revelation. It was not at all like that, probably due to my lack of ôset up savvyö. My ôDobro likeö guitar is Chinese made for which I paid about $300. (You are lucky to see ANY rezos in this country!) It now has a Beard bone nut and the Legend cone. It is not louder, does not seem to sustain more, nor does it have a very different sound but where the Beard makes a difference is in clarity. Defiantly a smoother and more clearly defined sound. I only wish there was some expert here in South Africa who could ratify my installation efforts or get me more out of it. Happy. Tuners next.

Beard Sider Cone

Compared to the stamped cone my 30¦s Regal had,the Beard has improved the sound. I¦m curious to hear if the sound will mature over time.

Great sound

I've put it in my custom built resonator guitar. Gives a warm and sustained sound. 1/4" higher than the economy model. Used a premade biscuit from Stewart-Macdonald. Great packaging. No worries with shipping. Thank you Stewmac!

Resonator Guitar Upgrade

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I purchased a second hand Fender FR50 resonator guitar for a very low price knowing from reviews it was never going to give me anything close to a National Triolian sound, and it didn't. I read Dan Brooks article on this web site on setting up resonators and decided to strip the FR50 down. The construction quality inside was surprisingly good. However the quality of the cone, spider and saddle left a lot to be desired. I purchased a 10 1/2" Beard resonator cone and an ebony topped maple saddle from Stewmac and a lighter more easily adjustable spider bridge from a guitar shop in the UK. I followed Dan Brooks article to the letter and finished the setup with a new set of Martin 13/56 Blue Grass strings.I am absolutely blown away by the result. I reckon I now have the best sounding Fender FR50 anywhere. The volume, tone and sustain are superb, due in the main (I'm sure) to the Beard cone. The total cost of the guitar including the upgrade is still under $300!

Resophonic Long Neck Banjo

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I choose the Beard Spider Bridge Cone over the Biscuit style for that more of a Dobro sound. It was just what was needed for my Resophonic long Neck Banjo project. This added to beautiful inlaid neck and the resonator brakets really brought it all together. It looks great and sounds great.
