Gotoh Vintage Keystone-style 3+3 Tuning Machines

About This Item

Vintage-style keystone knobs and stamped housings make these tuners the ideal vintage tuner replacement or upgrade. For 3-left/3-right pegheads.

These fine reproductions feature original style stamped gear housings, but have modern improved 15:1 gearing for smoother, more precise action. The knobs are molded greenish plastic, just like the originals!

New tuners with vintage appeal: distressed look of the Relic Nickel plating is perfect for repairing old guitars, when shiny new hardware just won't do.

Screws and round press-fit peghead bushings included. 11/32"-diameter pegholes required.

Installation Tips

Bushings: We recommend the #2062 Bushing Reamer (.340" diameter) to cut a clean, accurate counterbore for a professional job. Fit the press-fit tuner bushings correctly so your tuners will work smoothly.

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1713 Depth-stop Drill Bit (No.44 bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

Nice tuners.

I installed a set of Gotoh Vintage Keystone tuning machines on an arch top guitar I recently purchased. They were easy to install and work well. The guitar now looks great and stays in tune for an entire evening of playing with our band. I used a Dremel tool to drill out the screw holes and it worked well. These are well made tuners that do not cost an arm and a leg.

Too Small

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I got a set of these for a LP style kit guitar. The headstock on the kit is the same thickness as a Gibson SG that I have and I trust the kits' dimensions but these Tuners barely rise out of the holes. The quality is good and they seem to be well made but they are too short. I Will be buying the slightly longer Grover tuners next time.

Response from StewMac

Thanks for the feedback. You are welcome to return these for a refund or exchange at any time. We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and would be happy to get you some tuners that will fit. We have detailed spec drawings for all of our tuning machines here on the website. Take a look at these and let us know which you'd like.

prs mccarty replacements

i looked for months and i could not find replacement tuners that would be an easy swap out for my 2009 mccarty smokeburst. these tuners are perfectly suited for my mccarty. the tuners are smooth and solid. i highly recommend these tuners. you may have to drill out slightly larger holes for the mounting screws.

gibson j45 tuning machines

the J45 machines had been replaced with an ultra cheap set.which looked out of place and the ratio made it hard to tune. the new machines looked and worked great. the customer was very pleased with the results.

Average tuners

Needed to replace vintage style tuners on a '89 Epiphone Les Paul without drilling new holes. These fit just fine. However, 3 out of the 6 have a little extra slop that require about an i/8th turn before the tuner moves, not good when trying to get that extra semi tone to bring it in. I've used Gotoh before, but these have too much play in the gearing. Unfortunately, if I move up to the Gibson or Grover Deluxe, it's new mounting hole time and I lose the vintage style bushings, not to mention having to ream the tuner holes for clearance, oh well...

Response from StewMac

Richard, we're sorry to hear about the slop you are experiencing with the Gotoh tuners. We believe you've received a defective set and we'll provide a replacement or refund immediately. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Quality and 100% Total Satisfaction is our goal every day. If a product fails to work as intended in your shop, we'll take back the product and replace or refund. Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us.

Good product, watch pilot hole screw size.

Be sensitive as the mounting screws are a little larger than most tuners on acoustics. I just split a headstock, my bad :) Good product though.

good tuners

i bought these to replace the original tuners on my 1956 gibson es225, before i broke one of the original knobs. the knobs are a different shape than the original oval knobs, but were the only ones that matched most of the dimensions, available in relic nickel. they do look old! i left the original bushings in the guitar so as not to have to make any modifications to the peg head. my only issue is the posts are shorter. not by much, mind you, but short enough that it's hard to get more than 1 1/2 or two wraps around the post with a .046 e string.

Great upgrade

By

Installation of these tuning pegs was very simple. Replaced all 18 pegs on my Epiphone G-1275 double neck and it went without a hitch. Just removed the screws, then the pegs, then the bushings. Installed the new bushing, then the new pegs, and was back in business. These tuning pegs are much more solid in feel than the original Epi ones, and have much less slippage and therefore stay in tune much better. Very happy with the upgrade.

Uneven tension but fit well

By

Bought these to replace the Gibson Deluxe tuners on my Les Paul Classic. They fit just fine and i didn't have to remove the original inserts. However some of the tuners feel very snug and tight while others feel loose and too easy to turn. They seem to hold pretty well but i wish they all were snug and tight.
