How I used the strat pickguard

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I'm a beginner. The photo is of my first kit guitar and I don't have a lot of tools so I cut up the strat pick guard for my 2 Humbucker layout. Probably dumb, but I wanted the horn part and figured that could guide my design. I used an x-acto to scrape the bevel back into the parts I cut into with my saber saw. This left a nice smooth bevel as opposed to sanding it in. The inner white layer was softer than the black stuff so sanding on a scrap piece did weird things to the white part. Again, might be dumb, but it worked for me. For the record, I got the Stew-Mac finishing kit, and instruction book along with the Cherry Stain, ebony grain filler and foam buffing wheel. It all went quite well until the buff stage. I FAILED on my grain fill, so when I went to buff, the white compound got in every grain pore. Looked horrible. My Fault. I just didn't realize the effect that poorly filled grain would have with Mahogany. So! I cleaned it all out with Naptha. Then put 12 coats of tung oil right over the top of the nitro clear coats already on the guitar. This gave me sufficient fill to buff it. The tung oil gave a surprisingly glossy finish, was seriously easy and forgiving to apply. (wipe on, wipe off).
Oh yeah, the pick guard! Excellent quality. I am very satisfied with it.

Strat 3-ply 11-screw SSS pickguard, mint

Replaced single ply 8 screw guard. Aligned perfectly with existing holes. I like the additional rigidity over 1 ply guard. Changed unamplified sound for the better. Looks cool over Seafoam Green too! Recommended!

Relic Pickguard w/b/w

By

The "Relic" Version of this pickguard is just a new one with three or four scratches! By far this is not the art of aging! Very disappointing!!!

Not much more to say. I can't vouch for authenticity of color, since I'm not very color sensitive.

Perfect match for transparent black body

By

I bought this pickguard along with a swamp ash Strat body finished in transparent black, quite a good choice, as it lets both the pickguard and the body sparkle...
