Grover Mini Locking Rotomatics (406 Series) 3+3 Tuners

About This Item

Rotomatic® tuners that automatically lock the string as you tune. For 3-left/3-right pegheads.

Internal-cam locking string posts and 18:1 fine tuning are built into Rotomatic midsize cast housings to fit 3-left/3-right pegheads. As you tune, the post automatically locks the string. You'll need fewer string wraps, change strings faster, and your tremolo will have more accurate return-to-pitch.
Also available for 6-in-line pegheads.

These midsize Rotomatic tuners feature compact metal knobs with adjustable tension, lifetime sealed lubrication, and 18:1 gear ratio for fine tuning. Sets of 6.

Mounting screws and threaded hex peghead bushings with washers are included.
10mm (13/32") diameter pegholes required.

Installation Tips

Mounting screws: Pilot holes required. Installing delicate screws into hard wood requires great care and accuracy. We highly recommend the #1712 Depth-stop Drill Bit (5/64" bit) for the pilot hole before installing these screws. Lubricate the screw threads with cutting lubricant (also wax or a bar of soap) to reduce friction and help them thread properly.

The tuners are great, the mounting hardware...less so

By

The tuners were an excellent replacement for the stock ones on a Seagull acoustic, but the screws are *extremely* soft and the heads threatened to strip out before being fully snugged down. Be certain to have a philips head driver that seats perfectly and that if you're drilling new pilot holes that they're appropriately sized.

4 stars, only because...

... I'm a traditionalist and prefer the non-locking styles. Grover quality is always excellent, has been for many, many years.

You can tune a piano but...

I bought these tuners as a second choice. I was originally wanting non-locking mini tuners in gold but these were what were available. It turns out these work perfectly! They are the tiniest bit heavier than expected but not near as heavy as the Sperzel tuners I've used in the past. Took a little bit of mental re-configuring to put the strings on (the holes are deliberately off center) but WOW, they work amazingly! I would HIGHLY recommend these to anyone needing to replace their mini-tuners - locking or not. You will not regret it!

Oscar Schmidt OE-30 direct replacement

By

I upgraded the tuners on my Oscar Schmidt OE-30 with these tuners. They are a perfect replacement, and do not require any modification. They drop right in, and the small mounting screws on the back of the headstock line up perfectly.

These tuners are a wonderful upgrade to the factory tuners, which are 2nd rate at best. Be sure not to crank down too much on the 10mm nuts or you run the risk of cracking the finish on the headstock around the tuners. Finger-tighten the nuts, then just turn them about 1/4 turn more with a box-end 10mm wrench.

The self-locking sleeves on the string posts are something I haven't seen before, and it took me a few minutes to figure them out. Of course, I could have just read the directions before installing the tuners, but what fun would that be?

If you have a guitar you like, but the tuners are less than desirable, these are exactly what you want!

Drop in replacements for Epiphone DR-212/N

By

One of my customer's go-to guitars is his DR-212, a 12-string. He didn't care for the tuners so I made some measurements and proposed a couple of alternatives. He called Epiphone, complained about the installed tuners, where they confirmed the stock tuners were not the best and agreed that changing them out with higher quality would be a preferred approach. I ordered two sets and was able to literally "drop 'em in" and quickly restring. The higher turn ratio over the installed tuners is great improvement, especially for dialing in a 12-string. The locking rotomatics are a breeze to use and make for a quick restring event. They are very smooth and you "feel" in control. The customer is delighted and for the next restring, I'll count on some time savings.

Maton Mini

Bending strings would always send my Mini into untuned territory, so I reasoned that it was all the wraps around the post. It has worked on other guitars I have, so I put them on and am back in love with this little beauty, and can play any way I want to without having to check tuning after every song! Love 'em!

I love these tuners! Extremely smooth and nice looking! My 12 string acoustics sound much better with the locking mechanism!

'62 Epi lockers

Read the instructions! They work great but it wasn't enough to keep my Crestwood Custom in tune with my Washburn wonderbar trem unit. I got a locking nut from Kahler, cut tiny pieces of feeler gauges, .003, ..008, and .010 to compensate for string diameter with 2 to each Allen screw, glued them in place with superglue, and I can now dive 2 octaves on the fat E with no tuning necessary! I'll probably put them on my '72 D-18, which has the regular mini Grover's.
