 Very disappointed

By

Verified Buyer

I bought the perl pickguard and I was terribly disappointed in the quality and workmanship. The bottom layer is cream and clashes with the white top and my white bindings. The edges all have chatter marks around the perimeter. The cutouts all have ridges so it will not sit against the body flush. The made in korea sticker was the topping I loved. For the price I was expecting something better than what I could buy elsewhere for a fraction of what I paid here. For the high end guitars I build this is something that would for sure detract. I spent over 3 hours tuning the finish so it is somewhat acceptable... still not happy.

You get what you pay for. This was worth the price. High quality and nicely done. I've bought the ebay "economy" guards and threw them away. Stew-mac..you can trust their parts

Very nice quality. I don't mind spending more money for a quality piece.

Exactly what I wanted, but.......

I didn't care for the green tinted pick guard on my new translucent blue Fender Strat Deluxe mim. But although this one was a perfect fit and the color I wanted, it just looked weird against the pickup covers and knobs, as verified by my wife. I have various "Frankenstrats" waiting for me to put together and I'm sure this will work on one of them. Return postage would eat up a good part of the refund.

Tortoise Stratocaster Pickguard

By

I replaced the off-white, stock pickguard on my son's sonic blue stratocaster with a tortoise pick guard. The pick guard looks great and fits very well. The only issue I had was that the hole nearest the middle pickup was in a different place than the hole in original pickguard. I hate drilling holes in guitars, but my son was OK with it. He and I are very satisfied with the results and the improved look of the guitar.

How I used the strat pickguard

By

I'm a beginner. The photo is of my first kit guitar and I don't have a lot of tools so I cut up the strat pick guard for my 2 Humbucker layout. Probably dumb, but I wanted the horn part and figured that could guide my design. I used an x-acto to scrape the bevel back into the parts I cut into with my saber saw. This left a nice smooth bevel as opposed to sanding it in. The inner white layer was softer than the black stuff so sanding on a scrap piece did weird things to the white part. Again, might be dumb, but it worked for me. For the record, I got the Stew-Mac finishing kit, and instruction book along with the Cherry Stain, ebony grain filler and foam buffing wheel. It all went quite well until the buff stage. I FAILED on my grain fill, so when I went to buff, the white compound got in every grain pore. Looked horrible. My Fault. I just didn't realize the effect that poorly filled grain would have with Mahogany. So! I cleaned it all out with Naptha. Then put 12 coats of tung oil right over the top of the nitro clear coats already on the guitar. This gave me sufficient fill to buff it. The tung oil gave a surprisingly glossy finish, was seriously easy and forgiving to apply. (wipe on, wipe off).
Oh yeah, the pick guard! Excellent quality. I am very satisfied with it.

Strat 3-ply 11-screw SSS pickguard, mint

Replaced single ply 8 screw guard. Aligned perfectly with existing holes. I like the additional rigidity over 1 ply guard. Changed unamplified sound for the better. Looks cool over Seafoam Green too! Recommended!

The "Relic" Version of this pickguard is just a new one with three or four scratches! By far this is not the art of aging! Very disappointing!!!
