Waverly Banjo Tuning Pegs

About This Item

Inspired by the unique pegs used on prewar Gibson Florentine, Bella Voce and Granada banjos, and Martin OM guitars in the '20s and '30s.

Waverly's distinctive machined brass "2-Band" offset gear case and grained ivoroid knob will bring a handsome vintage touch to your banjo.

The best of vintage design and modern craftsmanship.
Smoother than the originals, thanks to 4:1 planetary gears, sealed lubrication, low-friction bushings, internal tension spring, leather knob washer and adjustable knob tension.

The brass string post has the original taper for proper string angle over the nut. The threaded hex bushing has a tapered washer to help protect the peghead finish.

For 7/16" to 3/4" (11.11mm x 19.05mm) peghead thickness. 3/8"-dia. pegholes required.

"Waverlys are smooth, accurate, and dependable."
—Sammy Shelor, The Lonesome River Band

"Very efficient and smooth banjo pegs. I highly recommend them."
—Tony Trischka

Replaced some 30 year old tuners on my Gibson TB-250 tenor banjo and now it stays in tune. Great quality and they look old like my banjo.

Best banjo tuners

You open the box and... are these not the most beatiful tuners in the world? Well, they work just as good as they look. Just unscrewing the bushing you can tell how smoothly it goes. Very happy with them, and with StewMac's service.

They work great!

I used a set of these on an old tenor banjo and another set on a 1921 National Tenor guitar. They make tuning so very easy and since they are geared they don't slip like friction tuners do. A big step up and worth the expense.

I'm A Believer

Recently a customer came to me with a nice old banjo with frozen tuners. The grease had become so solid that she'd actually twisted the back off the housing attempting to tune. I suggested she try a set of Waverly since the banjo deserved the quality. The build quality is excellent and I appreciated the leather washers and tension springs. When the gears on my tenor wear out I'll replace them with Waverly's.

New Pegs

I bought these to replace old pegs on a 1930's Mel Bay Tenor Banjo. These are very well made pegs. Movement is precise and offers resistance as you turn it so that precise tuning is easy. These required that I drill out the holes in the head a little but that was no issue. THe old pegs had no nut on top which let the old pegs move a little. The new ones tighten down nicely with the nut collar and washer on top. There is a set pin on the back that bites into the head to keep the peg from turning. You might want to pre drill a very small hole for these pins to help them set all the way into the head.

Installed a set on a 1928 Paramount Style A to replace the old Paige tuners which had started to crack. Easy install, they look great and the tuning is rock solid. I'll be adding these to my Mastertone next.
