Five-Star Banjo Rim Rod

About This Item

Single and dual rim rod sets for open-back and resonator banjos.

The rods are sturdy nickel-plated brass with 5/16-24 threads. Neck mounting bolts, tailpiece bracket and instructions are included.

Single Rim Rod Set: Fits our Old-Time Banjo Pot, or other 11"-diameter rims that use bracket shoes. 10-1/2" (267mm) long, with 2" (51mm) threaded section.

Dual Rim Rod Set: Mastertone-style fits our Bluegrass Banjo Pot, or similar pots fitted with a one-piece resonator flange.
Upper Rod: 9-7/8" (250mm), with 1-3/8" (35mm) threaded section.
Lower Rod: 10-1/2" (267mm), with 2" (51mm) threaded section.

Long Nut Dual Rim Rod Set: As found on Mastertone banjos from the late ’20s through the ’40s. The long nut makes adjustments easier. A great replacement for vintage banjos, this set fits our Bluegrass Banjo Pot and similar pots with a one-piece resonator flange.
Upper Rod: 9-3/4" (248mm), with 1-1/4" (32mm) threaded section.
Lower Rod: 9-3/4" (248mm), 2" (51mm) and 1-1/4" (32mm) threaded.

A client brought in a 70's era 5 string banjo that the neck angle adjustment had been stripped. These were perfect replacement rods. Happy client means a happy repair person.

Dual Rim rod set

Received the rim rod set, along with other parts needed for a tenor banjo. The only complaint I would have about them are the neck attachment screws which seem quite flimsy.

Works great with 3/4" pot, not great with 5/8" pot.

Flawless finish. Works perfectly with 3/4" thick rim. Needs a spacer (1/4")if using with 5/8" pot.

Too short for a 1/2" rim.

The single rim rod looks great quality when you lift it out of the packet. It has a beefy tailpiece bracket that doesn't bend under string tension, all good or so i thought until i fitted it to a 1/2" rim and found that i didn't have enough thread to get the retaining nut and tailpiece bracket on. Ah well i can use them on a 3/4" rim someday.

I like the fret wire very much and the Rim rod set and hardware are excellent.

Much easier for me to use than the style with the long nut on the bottom rod.

This rim rod set is more expensive than the Chinese imports, but the quality makes the price well worth it! It deserves the 5-star rating!

Quality and nickel plating of the single rim rod set and I suspect the double rod set(never purchased one of those-bluegrassers do seem to like hotrodding)are superb. One improvement I would like to see is a better bracket for the mounting of the tailpiece. It almost resembles something you might find in a blister pack at your local hardware store. Something resembling the cast L bracket or the dowel stick end bolt might look more appealing.
