Details

Specially made for traditional fret crowning and shaping.

Smooth corners protect the fretboard.
These special files are for those who prefer a traditional method of fret crowning. Their smooth corners won't leave scratches in the fretboard, and they're great for shaping the ends of the frets.

The small fine-cut file has 3" x 1/8" tapered cutting surfaces, and the medium-cut file has 5" x 1/4" tapered surfaces. The large file is known as a cant saw file, and is a favorite of our fret expert Dan Erlewine and many other well-known luthiers. It has a versatile flattened-triangle shape, with a 4-5/8" x 1/2" and two 4-5/8" x 5/16" cutting surfaces. All files have comfortable rubber-coated handles.

Works on stainless frets, too!
All of our tools are suitable for use on stainless-steel fretwire, with the exception of our Fret Tang Nippers and Fret Cutters. Modern stainless-steel fretwire is known to be harder than the traditional nickel-silver blends, but our own shop experience indicates the wire does not cause premature wear of files or sandpapers.

Medium File Works Perfectly!

By Erik H. from USA

Got the medium file for dressing/crowning by freehand recently filed frets and it works like a charm! Also can bevel fret ends pretty well. Just have to have a good technique for crowning, or be careful not to over file.

I really love these files. I tried the Double-edge Fret Files and made a real mess. Don't know why I just couldn't get them to work for me but the 3-Corner Fret Dressing Files rescued me.

Woww, This is fundamental to the work

Medium file = Perfect.

I used to work with jewelry files, but I found hard to balance them over the frets, especially the jumbo frets. The medium file has the perfect size on the sides so I can get a nice movement of rounding the frets. The way that it's made is great, because it leaves as little scratches as possible, It really helps the shiny frets process. Get one, man, it's the real deal on fret file.

to crowning files again. I get much better results and can shape the frets exactly how I want them very quickly too! Just takes a little practice.

Good for touching-up, not big jobs.

If you're doing a major dressing, it will take a long time to round over flatted (or sanded) frets with these. Better to purchase a fret-crowning file (standard or diamond) and use these for taking care of small fret issues.

The perfect tool when tradition matters.
