Spend less time filing fret ends!
This is the best tool for trimming the ends off fretwire.

A Stewart-MacDonald exclusive, our custom-made steel cutter has improved features you won't find on hardware store nippers.

The jaws are specially hardened for fret work, and they're profiled and flush-ground to cut the wire close to the fretboard. The result is a cleaner cut without pulling the wire, so you'll need to do less filing. Longer rubber-coated handles allow better access to the frets over a guitar body.

1" (25.4mm) jaw width, 8" (203.20mm) length.

Not recommended for use with stainless-steel fretwire.

Essential for fretting
This item is one of seven tools included in our Essential Fretting Tool Kit, a compilation of tools you'll need for the fundamentals of fret work. Kit also includes our book, Fretwork Step By Step by Erick Coleman with Dan Erlewine.

this is a really great cutter. cuts frets like butter but don't try it on anything else. I dented mine on accident.

A joy to own

I tried many different nippers for other tool suppliers, but these are the clear winner. Don't let the price keep you from trying these. For under $30 they made my last fretting job at least $30 better and easier.

I know that many builders started as an enthusiast and did many things without proper tools. I was one of them.
It really can destroy enthusiasm, so get proper tool as fret cutter is. Excellent.

These are nice nippers. They nip off the end of frets. You can also pull frets with them, use them as a clamp on fret wire to bend it to radius. Don't use them on stainless wire.

Fret nippers

Hated to pay this much for these nippers but I've went thru 2 or 3 pair that nicked bad with very few fret jobs and eventually pitted so bad that they wouldn't cut. They (not the stew/mac) are hard to sharpen also and keep the cutting edges parallel. I haven't done but 1 fret job with these new ones and so far the edges look good. I'm using Stew/Mac, Nickel/ silver fret wire, so don't be under the impression I used steel wire or some other hard fretting material. If they don't hold up, I will repost another comment. So far, so good!!

Have several pairs; both home-ground and factory. These are the very best I've tried.

A bit expensive, but worth it.

I considered this purchase for a long time. Finally after giving up on other tools I sprung for the fret cutter. Makes that final cleanup much less work.
