Preservation Polish

About This Item

Silicone-free and repair shop friendly, with no wax or silicone residues. 12-ounce bottle.

Preservation Polish gently cleans, polishes and protects lacquer and varnish finishes.

Ordinary guitar polishes shine by leaving a long-lasting silicone residue that's very hard to remove. If your guitar ever needs a repair, the silicone will prevent glue or finish from adhering, making even simple repairs more difficult and costly.

Simply apply Preservation Polish with a clean cotton cloth. It leaves no wax or silicone residues, so there's no cloudy film, stickiness or build-up. And it won't discolor the patina of vintage finishes.

Luthiers and repair shops: You've learned the hard way that guitars and silicone are bad company. Silicone residue makes it difficult for glue or finish to adhere properly and is a primary cause of "fisheyes" and cratering in lacquer finishes. It's even worse if silicone reaches bare wood or gets into the cracks of older finishes. Even the simplest finish repairs can become more difficult, time-consuming and costly. Do your colleagues a favor — use Preservation Polish and recommend it to your customers!

This is the third or fourth bottle of this polish I have purchased and I have never been disappointed with the results! It brings out the shine of any finish, and is great for cleaning finishes that have been neglected. I will continue to keep this on my bench!

Great on both glossy and matte finishes.

Before buying this polish, I check with Stew-Mac customer service to ensure that it was appropriate for the matte finish on my Epiphone EF-500RCCE. They were correct, it works great on this guitar and also on the high gloss finish of my Les Paul.

Cleans & Shines

Yes, I am one of those who abuses/ignores his guitars...even tho I love them. But it was definitely time to change strings, clean, and do a new set up. I was missing the tools for the "clean" part when I began researching what to use. I'm glad I didn't get something from the big box music store and went for Preservation Polish. It cleans very well and leaves the finish the way it came out of the factory. Some stubborn spots took an extra application or 2, but it was amazing at how easily the grime came off. I have some 20 or so guitars and the bottle should last through them all. Highly recommended.

this product is head and shoulders above anything I have used in the past.It penetrates conditions and creates a nice shine that does not smudge. It even creates a shine on my faded cherry Les Paul.I live in Colorado.where humidity is low,I use a humidifier in my room where my guitars are stored, and use this preservation polish religiously,or I would have necks warped beyond repair.I also like the way it feels on the neck,it's almost as if it has coat of graphite or some type of dry lubricant that makes a friction free feel to it,but you have to be careful not to let it slip out of your hands when you carry it.When you use it on the faded cherry Les Paul, that does not have a thick coat of laquerer,it is easier to see how the wood absorbs and conditions,as compared to a laqurered guitar, the shine it creates mkes it look laquered

Nothing better!

Of course it works wonderfully on new finishes.
I recently used it on a 1947 D-28 and a very beat up 1928 0–21 with original finish that was somewhat dry and brittle appearing… It worked wonderfully lifting grime from the deep pick wear in front of the pick guard. It brings an appropriate level of shine to the back and sides without making it look like something was applied to it. I love it.

I've used this on Fenders, Gibsons and Ovations and works great without any residue.
