Details

CTS pots have long been the first choice in American guitars. CTS pots from StewMac have even more to like: closer tolerances and longer life!

We've specified these CTS pots to feature a longer-life brass shaft and tighter ±10% resistance tolerance compared to CTS products offered by most other suppliers.

CTS precision audio taper gives you smoother and more accurate response than you'll get with economy pots. Crank your guitar up to 10 and the volume swells all the way—no abrupt flattening to choke your playing style.

Available with split shaft for fine-knurled (24-spline) knob, or with smooth shaft to fit a set-screw knob. A long-shaft 500K-ohm version fits Les Paul style carved-top solidbodies.

Each CTS pot includes a flat washer, lock washer, and two hex mounting nuts for custom height adjustment on a pickguard or control plate.

Which pot value should you choose?
500K pots are standard controls for humbuckers, and 250Ks are usually used for single-coil pickups. A 250K gives a slightly warmer tone than a 500K, and bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Replacement Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers are also available.

Precise but somewhat stiff

These are quality pots, visually look very nice and electrically precise. However I did notice that they were somewhat stiff, I fixed this somewhat by using some electrical lube.

Hot Pots

They are the best. They come in guitar specific shaft lengths and shaft format, so do your homework, they work smoothly, they last. There really is no reason you don't upgrade all your guitars. Are they full of guitar tone mojo? No, they just do their job really well. Tones in the fingers.

Excellent!

they really work fine, but broke 2 by trying to fold a leg to weld it on the case, nedded a wire counterly to standard ones that can easily fold.

Good, but not perfect

The quality of these is great. The threaded shafts on them are larger than standard guitars are drilled though so drilling may be required. The knurling is also different and may make your knobs no longer fit. I drilled mine out a bit. So if you want a straight drop in replacement, you might want Alpha brand?

Good Pots - bad taper

By Hepdog from Marietta, GA
(Customer's Reviews) Thursday, February 23, 2012

I bought the 0117 - 500K/long shaft. These went into a 79 Tokai LS-50 with WCR pickups and aerovox .022 caps. Quality is what you would expect from CTS. I would prefer a much more gradual taper - these seem almost linear compared to old school pots. I would not buy these again.

CTS Pots

I bought 4 new CTS pots to replace the ones in my LP. My original pots were over 50 years old and built like little tanks. The new CTS pots were not built quite as stoutly as the pots they replaced but made up for that in response.
