Straight-up raw vintage! Closely modeled after an outstanding vintage P.A.F. set from our own collection. That sweet tone was just too good to keep to ourselves!

True vintage sound.
We christened these exceptional humbuckers in tribute to the famous Kalamazoo address where the holy grail of pickups, the legendary P.A.F. (Patent Applied For), was born.

Just like the originals, the slug coil has more windings than the polepiece coil, and both coils are unpotted. Old P.A.F.s weren't made in separate neck and bridge-position models, and their DC resistance varied from 7-9K ohms. We give you a choice: Parsons Street neck-position pickups are wound to mid 7K, and bridge-position models to low 8K.

Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers sweet vintage tone was crafted to vintage P.A.F. specifications:
• Nickel-silver cover for tone transparency
• Original 1.97" (50.04mm) polepiece spacing
• Plain enameled AWG42 coil wire
• Black paper coil tape
• Wood spacer
• Choice of Alnico 2 or Alnico 5 magnet
• Nickel-silver baseplate
• Single-conductor braided shield output wire

Your choice of original-style magnets:
• Alnico 2 for warm tone with smooth highs and a soft bottom response.
• Alnico 5 produces a clear tone with more pronounced highs and a tighter low end.
(Original P.A.F.s contained Alnico 2, 3 and 5 magnets at various times.)

Neck models: mid 7K ohms
Bridge models: low 8K ohms

Making new pickups look old: Brand new pickups looked too shiny in this guitar that had seen a lot of gigs. So Dan Erlewine opened the old pickup and put its cover on the new one. This meant cutting the solder joint and resoldering.

This is my 2002 USA made Fender Telecaster.I own Gibson,Guild & Fender guitars. I did a few mods that I wanted to do for a long time to this Tele. First was Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers.Next I tinted the maple neck with Amber Nitro lacquer and bone nut.All from StewMac.I upgraded the electronics...Look out now, this guiter is alive and I play it more than all the others. With the single in the bridge the middle position is to die for.Next will be new machine heads.I am really happy with everything and next install will be a TV Jones humbucker in the neck position of my Koa Tele. So far so good thanks SMc.

What a difference!

By

I bought Parsons Street humbuckers, emerson caps and CTS pots to upgrade an Epiphone Sheraton. The guitar played well, but the pickups were very muddy and lackluster.

As a huge fan of DiMarzios & Duncans in my strat and Parker Fly, I was initially unsure whether the Parson Street would make enough of an incremental difference, but all i can say is WOW. With an A5 neck, A2 bridge, the guitar has really come alive. Played clean, or through effects, they sound amazing - dynamic, rich, detailed and more. Its made the Sheraton my go-to guitar because its just so versatile, and fun, to play.

Side note - I tested the pickups with the existing alpha pot wiring, then rewired the harness after testing the sound quality. This showed the sonic improvements were pickup driven. The emerson caps made a good improvement, but the sweep of the CTS pots just seemed very off, with no notice more setseable tone improvement. Ended up pulling the wiring out and refitting the alphas...

Fantastic humbuckers

I bought the Parsons Street A2 bridge and A5 neck set for a Gibson 'Moderne' clone I built. Although I'm not a skilled player, I thought they sounded great! But I have a friend who is an accomplished player, and here's what he had to say:

"This thing really plays nice, it's very reminiscent of my Gibson V, but I'd say that this plays better! The pickups are really tight and expressive, delivering the 'punch' of my Les Paul" and "I'm still blown away by this baby! You've really outdone yourself this time".

Great tone at a great price

I bought a set to put in my Epiphone Sheraton II. I hated the stock pickups and didn't love the humbucker sized P90s that replaced the stock pickups. With these pickups, I now finally love the way my Sheraton sounds! Indeed, I have a Gibson SG with '57 Classics and I like the tone of the StewMac pickups better than the '57 Classics! The only thing some users might not appreciate is the lack of wax potting, which results in a pickup that isn't perfectly quiet. Still...the noise is minimal and the tone is outstanding. My SG might wind up with a set of these pickups before too long!

Awesome Vintage Tone

Just replaced Alnico V Burstbuckers in my seldom played 2005 les paul standard. I always thought this guitar sounded too metal for my style.

These are the best pups I own, bar none. Creamy, buttery, smooth with tone rolled back. Whole lotta humbucker all the way up. I did also put bumblebee caps and new vintage spec wiring and pots in as well, but holy smoke these sound great.

Well worth the price. Plus, pop off the covers to show the cream coils - looks so good on my faded burst.

My friend keeps looking for great (tone?) and has gone through more guitars and pickups than anyone I've known in thirty years of playing, but regardless, I've had the pleasure of playing his and hearing the changes. Aquired a Ibanez (other-kinda-cutaway) and replaced the active pickups w GAPS Alnico 2 Bridge & Neck w CTS pots & Emerson cap, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! And finally, if you cannot play the guitar it is not your pickups!

great tone
used them to replace cheapo OBL pickups on my epiphone special plus (the one with coil splitting, and fake OBL pickups)
they sound much brighter and less muddy than the OBL's, the upgrade I was looking for.
To keep the coil split functioning, I followed the tutorial and soldered the wires to the coil joints of the humbucker. Working great, amazing sound for the single coil!

Parsons street humbucker

By

I bought one humbucker for the bridge position installed with 2 lace gold single coils. The humbucker is excellent value and is louder than I expected but with a good tone both clean and distorted. The single coils sound a bit quiet in comparison but not enough to worry about. The loudness of the humbucker can be easily adjusted by lowering it but I like the tone when it is close to the strings and the excellent sustain so I've left it like that.

Great Value Great Sound

I purchased a nice Japanese Les Paul copy a few months ago and needed to change out the pups; neck was okay but too hot and the neck was muddy. Ordered these based on reviews on their value and had them installed last month by a very good tech former guitar appraiser. He was impressed and I am impressed. I have now set the pole pieces to my taste and the balance and definition is very good in all positions. I have no experience with the other brands mentioned on here but those pups sounded better than the stock ones on a Gibson Les Paul Custom I was playing through a high end Friedman Half stack at the Atlanta Guitar Center Platinum Shop July 4th weekend. Also remember that the original 59 PAFs had aged ten years by the time the Brit Rockers were making noise in the late 60's. I am hoping these will also age nicely and sound like a 59 set; that is what my tech suggested as to any "new" PAF clones that we purchase.
