Golden Age Humbuckers

About This Item

Vintage vibe, great price. Wake up your guitar! For authentic classic tone, Golden Age humbuckers feature Alnico 5 magnets and AWG42 coil wire just like the originals.

Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s.
Alnico 5 magnets give that warm classic tone. AWG42 coils are wound on black or zebra bobbins, fabric-taped, mounted on a brass baseplate, and wax-potted for microphonic suppression. The output wire is 4-conductor plus ground, allowing versatile custom coil-tapping, series/parallel, and phase switching options to expand your sound.

Wiring diagrams and vintage dimensions make installation in most humbucker-equipped guitars easy.

Bridge models:9.0K ohms, 2.015" polepiece spread
Neck models:8.0K ohms, 1.97" polepiece spread

Mounting screws, springs and wiring diagrams are included.

Dimensions
Length2.75"(69.85mm)
Width1.5"(38.10mm)
Height.840"(21.34mm)including mounting tabs

Looking for hotter output with more powerful midrange? Check out Golden Age Overwound Humbuckers.

TIP: Handy Humbucker Helpers make installation a whole lot easier.

Color-matching Cream Parts and Bindings
There have always been slight variations in the color of the cream plastic parts used on Gibson and other guitars. It's not uncommon to see brand new and vintage guitars with bindings, pickup rings, toggle switch rings and pickguards that don't perfectly match in color. We do our best to match all our cream products, but there's no absolute control from batch to batch, or from supplier to supplier.

Can't go wrong...

If you want a classic, smooth, complete tone from a pickup, start here because this is it. Realistically pickups and there sound capabilities are subjective and the end user needs to hear them and play them. If you don't want some screaming overpowered pickups, try these out. They are everything they say they are and the price is right. Another important fact that I buy these for is that the pole spacing varies from neck to bridge, like it's supposed to. I approve this product ????

A Dramatic Difference

By

I installed a pair of open-coils in the 6-string side of my Epi doubleneck, and they sound fantastic...which makes them far and away the most dramatic and obvious improvement in sound that I have ever realized from just replacing pickups.

Better than expected

I have a ibanez rg hardtail mahogany with the stock pickups (infinity 3 and 4). Everytime I played it live, the sound was flat, nasally loud with unbalanced treble. (Pickup height/poles adjustment didn't fix it and tried it in multiple amps). I could never hear individual strings. Since the guitar is not a prestige model i could never bring myself spending big money on a set of pickups. It's a shame because it plays so nice and feels natural to me. My Les Paul with Seymour Duncans is what I use for live performances. But things have changed.

After some years of research i order a set of GA, Zebra overwound for the bridge 12k and regular wound 8k in the neck. WOW! I can't believe the difference it made. The sound is so amazing, the bridge makes some serious punchy distortion with a smooth clean jazz in the neck. Every note is heard. These are up there with professional grade pickups. Top quality craftsmanship, they even adjusted the pole pieces for the radius. I'm very happy with these pickups! Thank you stewmac for giving my ibanez a soul and now can play it live.

I'm real glad I got the A5 zebra in the bridge position of my Epi Dot. I wired it to split, with the cts spst switch. Sound is clear, notes are whole. Iv'e got the A5 parson street in the neck position, they blend great.

The perfect pickup for me

By

I bought a gold humbucker set for my les Paul. I didn't want a high output pickup but I also didn't want a non wax potted vintage pickup. I installed these and cranked my Marshall and it sounded just like it should, awesome. I plan to buy more when different projects arise.

Golden age 8k neck pickup

By

Verified Buyer

I love Golden Age pickups and have bought 6 or 7 seven sets. The 8k neck pickup has the perfect tone I am looking for in a neck pickup. These are really the best pickups on the market in my opinion , and for half the price of more expensive less toneful pickups.

Humbuckers set

I´ve bought 3 sets of Zebra Humbuckers from StewMac. The first one was a replacement for a Oldville by Gibson 1991. In that time, I bought a overwound pick ups. The result was great. But, a friend of mine told me she was sounded too much hot for blues. So, I bought a second Zebra pair, at this time... regular ones. Two things: 1-that my friend , I guess, he framed to me, once he bought as quick as I said I would change those pick ups... 2-The guitar continues sounds great with the other pick up with regular pick ups. I play the blues and classic rock. And these pick ups are great to me.

Elitist SG sings and screams with new power!

By

Verified Buyer

I finally decided to replace the original 50SR/60ST pickups on my Elitist SG and opted for a Golden Age Humbucker for the bridge position and a Parsons Street PAF-style for the neck. The original Epiphone pick-up was unpotted and suffered from microhonic squeal at higher volumes. As a result, I didn't play this guitar on gigs that required higher volume, despite the fact that it's one of my favorites for its superb neck, nut, and overall craftsmanship. The new Golden Age humbucker comes wax potted and allows me to play the Elitist SG at higher volumes and still maintain a beautiful crunch. I am a happy camper.
