Golden Age Humbuckers

About This Item

Vintage vibe, great price. Wake up your guitar! For authentic classic tone, Golden Age humbuckers feature Alnico 5 magnets and AWG42 coil wire just like the originals.

Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s.
Alnico 5 magnets give that warm classic tone. AWG42 coils are wound on black or zebra bobbins, fabric-taped, mounted on a brass baseplate, and wax-potted for microphonic suppression. The output wire is 4-conductor plus ground, allowing versatile custom coil-tapping, series/parallel, and phase switching options to expand your sound.

Wiring diagrams and vintage dimensions make installation in most humbucker-equipped guitars easy.

Bridge models:9.0K ohms, 2.015" polepiece spread
Neck models:8.0K ohms, 1.97" polepiece spread

Mounting screws, springs and wiring diagrams are included.

Dimensions
Length2.75"(69.85mm)
Width1.5"(38.10mm)
Height.840"(21.34mm)including mounting tabs

Looking for hotter output with more powerful midrange? Check out Golden Age Overwound Humbuckers.

TIP: Handy Humbucker Helpers make installation a whole lot easier.

Color-matching Cream Parts and Bindings
There have always been slight variations in the color of the cream plastic parts used on Gibson and other guitars. It's not uncommon to see brand new and vintage guitars with bindings, pickup rings, toggle switch rings and pickguards that don't perfectly match in color. We do our best to match all our cream products, but there's no absolute control from batch to batch, or from supplier to supplier.

Humbuckers set

I´ve bought 3 sets of Zebra Humbuckers from StewMac. The first one was a replacement for a Oldville by Gibson 1991. In that time, I bought a overwound pick ups. The result was great. But, a friend of mine told me she was sounded too much hot for blues. So, I bought a second Zebra pair, at this time... regular ones. Two things: 1-that my friend , I guess, he framed to me, once he bought as quick as I said I would change those pick ups... 2-The guitar continues sounds great with the other pick up with regular pick ups. I play the blues and classic rock. And these pick ups are great to me.

Elitist SG sings and screams with new power!

By

I finally decided to replace the original 50SR/60ST pickups on my Elitist SG and opted for a Golden Age Humbucker for the bridge position and a Parsons Street PAF-style for the neck. The original Epiphone pick-up was unpotted and suffered from microhonic squeal at higher volumes. As a result, I didn't play this guitar on gigs that required higher volume, despite the fact that it's one of my favorites for its superb neck, nut, and overall craftsmanship. The new Golden Age humbucker comes wax potted and allows me to play the Elitist SG at higher volumes and still maintain a beautiful crunch. I am a happy camper.

Best Bang for the Buck !

I have used these pickups many times on my guitars. I have never had a bad pickup.
At about $50 each, I cannot find one that sounds better. All my customers like it.
I like it. It sounds just as good as the '57 Classics & Burstbuckers, by Gibson. At 1/2 to 1/3 of
the price. Lots of stellar pickups out there. All at well over $100 each. Save some bucks, but
keep that awesome tone !

Golden Age Pickups

Yea, their electric guitars, but they're still musical instruments. And if you have a moderately priced guitar (I have an Epiphone) these pickups will make it sound like a premium instrument. That's what I think.

Used this as a replacement for a PRS SE Custom 24 Floyd factory neck pickup. Great pickup. It is everything I had hoped it would be.

Great pickups, great price.

Installed these in an Epi Les Paul to replace a couple GFS pickups. These sound far better, very dynamic, not too much midrange. I wired both with series/parallel switches, parallel thins the tone just the right amount for cleaner playing without much volume loss. Neck measured 8.18ohms bridge 9.21ohms, just the right amount of output to clean up when needed but can still hit the front end of my amp hard. I'm very pleased.

Excellent sounding humbuckers!!

The neck pickup was a little dark with the standard capacitor ad 500K Pot so I used a 15uf which brightened it up nicely. The bridge humbucker sounds great with the 500K Pot and 47uF cap. I put these in an HH strat. With a Fender super switch, so position:
#1 - Full bridge
#2 - Split bridge
#3 - Neck and bridge
#4 - Split neck
#5 - Full neck

I have used these humbuckers in some of my electric guitars and even in pure jazz guitars. I think they perform as well, in some cases better, than some really expensive boutique models.

Good sounding pickups

I had thought twice because of the price, but ordered them because of other reviews giving them good ratings. A little mid-range heavy, but easily EQ'd out.
