Golden Age Alnico 5 Single-coil Pickups

About This Item

Vintage vibe, great price. Wake up your guitar! Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s, Golden Age single-coil pickups bring out the best in your guitar.

The reviews say it all: "they really, really sing...great buy for the price." Wax-potted AWG42 coil windings and Alnico 5 staggered polepieces deliver vintage tone, optimum output at each position, balanced string response, and microphonic suppression. They're the real deal, for a lot less money.

Looking for extra punch? Our #5423 HOT model is specially wound to 7.6K ohms, for the bridge or neck position.

Bonus! Two covers (one black and one white) are supplied with each Golden Age single-coil pickup, for easy pickguard matching.

Golden Age single-coil pickups have vintage dimensions for easy installation in standard bodies, and two vintage-style fabric-insulated hookup wires. Polepieces have 2-1/16" spread. Mounting screws, rubber tubing and wiring diagrams are included.

The middle-position pickup is reverse wound, reverse polarity, for hum cancellation at the #2 and #4 switch positions.

Note: Each pickup has a copper shield surrounding the coil, a modern feature for 60-cycle hum suppression not found on vintage pickups. To play "naked" vintage-style, simply snip the small jumper wire that connects the foil to the pickup's ground lug.

Hi I bought a middle single coil and a hot neck single coil golden age pickups I struggled to find a good review or sound bites all over the net , so I took a gamble and ordered them I really didn't expect them to be as good as they are for the price ! Wow great price and such amazing tones from both pickups are 100 x better than my fender Tex mex pickups don't hesitate just order them if stew mac put sound bites of these on the site they would sell out fast. Cheers. Dave

Golden Age Neck Pickup

I used the above to replace the neck pup in a 1990 /'62 reissue strat (MIJ) and to put my two bob's worth in, I have to echo another review in as much as it's excellent value and an improvement on the original. You can buy better but not at this price. Overall very pleased. Michael. Brisbane. Aust.

Wow!

These are amazing for the price. I just finished restoring my Cimar strat copy and decided to try new pickups. I put in the Golden Age HB in the bridge with coil-tapping and the 5423 hot neck and middle. The guitar really sings now. Sparkling crystal clears highs. Very happy.

Very nice

Just put a set of these in a Strat I built and I am very happy with them. Only problem is that the covers do not seem to seat home properly and I needed to clean up the inside a little. They sound fantastic though.

Golden Age Alnico 5 Single-coil Pickups

I installed the set of 3 with the hotter bridge pickup and the top end switch and pots in a Japanese Squier (1983), so a decent body and neck. Previously had custom hand-wound single coils installed. The Stew/Macs were a really nice surprise - very "Stratty" in tone and quality...bright and clear, with great tonal distinction between each pickup and classic out of phase sounds. I recommend these for anyone seeking what a Strat should really sound like..!

Not a bad pickup considering the price but don't expect the same tone and quality from pickups costing more. I ultimately returned them. Just remember: you get what you pay for.

Golden Age Alnico 5420 disappointing.

1st let me praise StewMac for prompt delivery! Well under the estimated time. I am gathering components to build a relic version of David Gilmour's black Strat. I decided to try this very highly praised ôGolden Age Alnico 5420ö from StewMac. At 5.7K ohms the resistance is slightly lower than listed. Although the 5420 is not a bad pickup, it sounded (a little) weak and very average. Also, even though shielded it was no quieter than the other pickups. The 5420 is not a pickup that is destined to stay in either of my Strats. I chose the 5420 over the 5421 for the middle position as GilmourÆs guitar does not have a reverse winding. This affects the "all 3 pickups on" tone that the DG Black Strat is known for. This of course is not the recommended position for the 5420 neck pickup.

high-quality upgrade

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought a Hot Golden Age single coil to put in my Squier Strat, and it sounds fabulous. It's louder, rounder, and more sparkling (you know what I mean!) than the stock pickups, and it sounds more like a Strat than ever. It was way less expensive than similar quality pickups from other makers, and it arrived ready to drop in the guitar with all the necessary accessories like screws, springs, and an extra cover (one black, one white).

I know 45 greenbacks is a lot at the end of the month, but when you consider the easy, huge improvement to your sound, it's actually an incredible bargain.
