The plans are ok but...

By

I could build a guitar from them but they are sparse in dimensions. Yes they have full sized drawings that can be cut and used for templates but I would have preferred not to have to measure the drawing and just look at the dimensions. Sorry if that seems picky but I am a former mechanical engineer and expect all dimensions on the plan.

Acoustic Guitars are complicated

I've made electric guitars and basses, for which the most difficult part of the process is choosing which pickups to use, (StewMac has a wealth of resources online which cover every aspect of the construction).
Acoustic guitars require a whole nother level of info for you to be able to produce a fine sounding, "living" instrument. There's a big difference between that and a dead chunk of wood. In other words you need a plan with all the bits of info, like thicknesses, angles measurements, and methods. This plan is the most comprehensive and compact blueprint I've found.

Inaccuracies in scale length vs illustration

By

While checking my fretboard slotted with the plans measurements against the plan's illustration, I realized that it's actually off. Upon further measuring I realized that the saddle dimensions place it an about an eighth of an inch further back than it is on the plan. Considering I made templates from, took measurements of, and positioned braces according to the plan, I take issue with this inconsistency. For example, had I realized, I would have shifted the bracing pattern down to meet the relation to the saddle more accurately. Also, the lines on the illustrations are pretty thick, and hard to grab an accurate measurement on some things without dimensions. Also, I would think the radius of the top and back would be notated on the plan. (It's 28' top 20' back)

Very excellent plans, can definitely make a good guitar from these plans. The only thing I can agree with other review's is, I wish they weren't folded but for the price and quality wood buy again if needed.

Excellent plan. Could do with measurements in MM as well as inches for us European users!

Herringbone Guitar Plan

This is a very detailed plan which I have used quite regularly. I use it as the basic design for my dreadnoughts and just vary it slightly each time so each guitar is unique. My own preference would be for it to be provided rolled rather than folded. Mine started to tear along the folds after just a couple of times. I will have to buy another copy soon.
