A Beginner's Delight

By
(Customer's Reviews)

As a novice, I have found a wealth of information that has already benefitted me in the past couple of weeks. From understanding the workings of the bridge, saddle, saddle slot, bridge pins, string angle, and string placement against the sound board, to the proper installation of the nut and the placement of strings on it, this book has enlightened me and enabled me to take a poor sounding guitar and transform it into a decent sounding instrument. I have a lot to learn and to do to tweak my test instrument but I am confident that when I do the adjustments using the information in this book, they will be done well.

I highly recommend the Guitar Player Repair Guide to the beginner who is set on doing it himself or herself. There is enough information about the why as well as the how to send me in the right direction for a lifetime of learning and doing the repairs and setups on my instruments. With pictures and step by step instructions, most repairs are going to be done with confidence and ease. Well worth the small price I paid.

Great for anyone beginning and wanting to get away from high priced repair shops. Thorough enough for anyone to learn to take care or their own equipment. The advanced techniques make you want to get more books and learn more especially fretting and inlay work.

I am so glad I bought this book. I use it every day. I am reading, and re-reading it cover-to-cover. I find new nuggets every time I open it. I have several similar books, but this is the best.

Guitar Bible

I have an old edition of this guide, I will be getting the latest in addition to it but will keep both, the old edition is like an old friend. You will learn what your limitations are as it is as important to know what you SHOULDN'T do as well as what you can do. If you learn just the basic things you will save the cost of making mistakes and save a great deal of $$$ by doing most of the work yourself. Even if you don't attempt some of the things in this book it is a great reference.

This is my go to book when I need an informative and complete reference on methods and techniques for building guitars or making repairs. We'll written and illustrated. It was even signed and dated by Dan Erlewine. Nice personal touch.

Professionals and serious players should have this book...!

By
(Customer's Reviews)

The combination of this book's text and the DVD presents a wealth of information that any professional or serious guitar player should have. Even if you don't plan on doing much more than setting up and maintaining your guitar, once you begin to read this book, you'll find yourself inspired to take things a little further than you planned, and Dan's encouraging you to do just that throughout the book..! It also gives you a much greater ability to communicate with your guitar tech/repair shop.

Dan will also let you know when the procedure is too complicated and is best left to an experienced repair person...either way, you really can't go wrong.
