Instructions
ColorTone® Tinted Aerosol Guitar Lacquer can be sprayed over smooth unfinished wood; over sanded basecoats of grain filler; over ColorTone nitrocellulose Sanding Sealer, and over ColorTone Stains. Spray additional coats of ColorTone Clear Aerosol Guitar Lacquer for a hard, durable finish with a deep gloss.

Ideal for touch-up work, or for finishing an entire instrument. It's fast-drying and resistant to alcohol and water.

Aerosol spraying is an economical way for the beginner to apply a finish. Aerosols produce a slightly rougher surface than spray guns however, and more sanding of the clear topcoats may be needed for a level finished surface. Tinted coats should not be sanded. In our recommended video Spray Finishing Basics, Dan Erlewine demonstrates helpful tips on using aerosols.

Application Tips: We recommend spraying multiple thin coats, in a low humidity environment. Heavy-bodied Sanding Sealer (one coat equals two coats of lacquer) will seal stained or unstained wood before the color coats or clear topcoats are applied. At least one can of Sanding Sealer and 4-6 cans of lacquer will usually finish a complete guitar.

Use warm lacquer, not cold!
Pro shops spray heated lacquer because cold lacquer spatters, requiring extra sanding. You should warm up your aerosol lacquer too, simply soak them in a sink of warm tap water.

Our ColorTone Aerosol Finishing Kit is a great choice for the first-time instrument maker. It includes our easy-to-apply clear gloss aerosol finish with the best instruction book available!

Wonderful color match...dries quick, sands easily

I recently acquired 8 new, or almost new Epiphone guitars...mostly Les Pauls. They all had broken headstocks. I needed to glue and splice each one. I have some SM touch-up videos that I used as a guide. I'm very happy with the result. For a first time attempt at color touch-up it's not bad. I have a long way to go to perfect my technique. PLEASE be careful with ventilation and personal protection. I was careless and got an amazing lacquer buzz/hangover. I know better but was excited to finish a particular instrument. Good price, fast shipping!!

Amber tint

This is some great stuff... if you use it correctly. Warm the can in hot tap water and be sure to always clear the nozzle after use.

Spray the amber differently than other colors on a maple neck. Use it sparingly or it turns orange... one very light dusting coat. Spray your clear on the amber as soon as it's tacky and it will help blend the amber and even it out completely.

Great option for finishing without the expensive equipment!!

I have used this product for refinishing necks and bodies. My most recent project was a sunburst using Vintage Amber for the base, Cherry Red and for the first inner ring and Red Mahogany for the edge, sides and back. Made sure to put the cans in hot water to bring up the temp first and it came out perfect. Followed up with Clear Coat and finishing with a wet sanding and buffing process. Looks like a custom finish. Great Product!!

beautiful first burst!

Man this stuff is great. Used carefully and with the instructions, you can get a very competent burst first go. I gave it 4 rather than 5 because you definitely have to watch for drips at the nozzle. One of those on your top and its "start over" time. Just keep that in mind, and practice on scrap, and you'll surprise yourself!

Cherry Red Spray tint

For the first time I tried the cherry red tinting lacquer. I have read this is a great product and I have to agree. The one draw back I had with the product is that the tip of the spray can does not have a pattern to disperse the product in a wide pattern. I ended up with light and dark streaks across the body of the guitar I was working on. After a repeated attempt and the same result I went back to the tried and true of mixing my own tints in a spray gun.

Don't let me hold you back from this product. With the tip it comes with it is great for bursts and detail work. Just don't try a whole body till they give us an optional tip that will give a wide spray pattern
