A hands-on course in guitar making.
We include full-size plans drawn by Don MacRostie, who designed our kits based on prized vintage Martins. The kits are adapted for the small shop so you won't need factory tools. We do the precision machine work, so you can hand build a great guitar.

We include illustrated assembly instructions and a FREE DVD, Building an Acoustic Guitar Kit! This DVD demonstrates the process in a way that would take a book to fully describe — and you can see what you'll be doing before you do it yourself. No other instrument kits give you this level of instructional detail!

These kits and instructional material are a solid introduction to guitarmaking.

These are great sounding guitars!
You get a bookmatched AAA back and side set, available in rosewood or mahogany. The AAA solid spruce top has been thickness-sanded and profiled. We've slotted the rosewood fingerboard, included pre-cut inlays and a genuine bone nut and saddle.

Choose a bolt-on neck or a traditional dovetail—both are machined for an accurate fit, saving you hours of complicated work. Width at the nut is approximately 1-7/8". Only the final trimming and sanding are required.

Included in the kit is a Hot Rod Truss Rod, to make the neck two-way adjustable.

Save time, save tools.
You don't need to tool up for critical machine work like side bending, shaping the neck and cutting the heel joint. You'll hand build and finish an heirloom quality instrument.

Solid AAA tonewoods: Spruce, rosewood and mahogany
Precision-machined neck joint
Precut heavy cardboard molds for trouble-free body assembly

You add the tuners.
From years of supplying kits to builders we know that you'll want to choose the finishing touches, so tuners and strings are not included. To personalize your guitar, see our selection for the steel-string tuning machines for slotted pegheads. Pegholes will need to reamed slightly to fit the Schaller tuners.

Customize your kit to be a left-handed instrument.
Though our guitar kits are intended for right-handed players, the soundboard bracing patterns can be reversed to build a left-handed instrument. You can make a left-handed bridge from scratch using one of our bridge blanks.

Triple o guitar kit

My first ever internet order to America. DHL did a great job of delivery with excellent tracking, arrived in four days. Kit in good condition, when opened was very pleased with the quality and comprehensive instructions.Started to build, tricky in places but straightforward, one or two hiccups along the way but was pleased enough to order Waverley tuners to finish. I may order some bone pins to keep the quality up. The guitar plays exceptionally well and having built it I find that the final setup is the closest I have ever had a guitar to my playing taste. I enclose a photo nearing completion but I am sure you have seen one of these before.

Built my first Guitar, a dreadnaught, during my attendance at a Luthier Guitar building course in July 2011. I have just completed my second and third guitars, the third being built from this kit with one alteration being that I used an Adirondack top. The result is superb and having quality tools (mostly acquired from StewMAc) means you enhance your chances of a great result. Guitar building can be addictive!

Excellent but know what you're getting into first.

Quality of the kit and customer service was excellent, but I unexpectedly and necessarily ended up buying specialty tools that cost more than the kit itself. Even though a newbie can complete the kit on their own, I highly recommend finding an experienced luthier to help with some of the more complicated procedures that will make a big difference between a so-so guitar and a great instrument. Aside from that I'm more than pleased with the results and feel a great sense of accomplishment.

My Favorite Guitar to play

I built my 000 about three years ago. It never fails to amaze me how great this instrument sounds. As I use it to perform with I always get compliments on its tone. Because I was able to build it myself and size the neck to my hands it is a joy to play. I highly recommend taking the plunge and build your own.

Outstanding Introduction to Building!

As a complete novice, and someone with basically zero woodworking experience, this is a fantastic kit to work with. The quality of materials is outstanding - the back, sides and top I received are beautiful, clean specimens, the neck is a gorgeous piece of mahogany, and all other elements are precisely cut and of excellent quality.

The video and booklet instructions are very thoughtfully put together so that even a completely uninitiated boob like me can follow them pretty easily. I see no reason why even an experienced builder wouldn't be very pleased with this kit. Altogether, a very, very cleverly constructed and versatile kit for a very cool body style - the 12-fret 000. And of course StewMac's customer service is invariably first rate. I would recommend this kit highly to anyone interested in building a guitar.

All You Need

If you're interested in the theory and mechanics of building an acoustic guitar this kit has all you'll need. The 'how-to' instructions, DVD, and pre-cut, pre-shaped wood can save you thousands of dollars in equipment, time, and books with conflicting theories about how to do it right. This is as close to building side by side with experienced luthiers and top quality woods as you can get.

Even Impressed the Luthier

I was thrilled that my first attempt came out so well. I have a greater respect for the craft after building a guitar. Superb crisp tones. Wasn't 100%. Had some buzzing frets high up the neck and the bridge n saddle needed some tweaking, so I took it to a local luthier. He made the fine adjustment and said, he "was impressed with the quality of sound from a kit guitar." It's set in DADGAD and sits along side my Yairi. I play both proudly and with equal pleasure

Many thanks from Russia.

Many thanks from Russia. Kit the magnificent! Packing reliable. Very sympathetic people work in StewMac. Thanks Larry!
To start to build guitars without Kit - in vain to waste time. Really many tools are not necessary. For those who continues to doubt. Or those at whom else are not present professional tools. For example is not present Go-bar Clamping System. Do not despair! Take my decision on a photo.
Order to itself Kit and have pleasure. You will stick together it even on kitchen!
