Routing for trim on an armrest bevel

Armrest bevels are cool and comfortable on a custom guitar, but it really complicates the binding and purfling.
I used figured maple binding, and a piece from the same board for the bevel patch. I attach a thin (.024) Black/White to the maple binding before shaping and gluing it on with the top purfling.
After the bevel patch is glued on, I use my dremel in the StewMac router base with a wedge that matches the angle of the bevel. The 1/32 Downcut bit is the perfect size to cut a channel along the edge of the maple patch for the thin B/W strip. The downward spiral makes a very clean cut with no "fuzz" left on the edge.
Same method can be used on the top, but I use the 1/16th Downcut bit and install a B/W/B strip to match the top purfling.

1/16" bits

These bits are nicely made. However, the width of cut exceeds .0625". So, if you are using .0625" purfling for rosettes, like I do, don't use this bit. It will leave a gap that wood swelling doesn't compensate for. Had to reject and remake a top.

The setup I used was a dremmel with the Stewmac router base and rosette circle cutter.

My dream bits

So far I have just tried one of the small bits and it worked really nice. Tonight I will try a bigger one. GOOD product.

Cuts the mustard... and more.

I got in the 1/32 bit in just as I was using a Dremel bit and switched to the one from Stew Mac - the old bit is now retired. I am using this for really tiny inlay work. Now I wish they would make a 1/64. Cuts nicely into hardwoods.

A size for every inlay string

I'm a furniture maker and have been using these inlay bits for several years. They do a great job cutting the grooves for string inlay. With all the sizes offered I can always find the exact width bit to match my stringing.

Inlay bits

These bits handle thier business even at full depth. I recommend starting shallow though:)

Lots of other uses.

I have loved these bits for many years and have lately found a new use for the 1/16" bit. I have been doing some piece work repairing chairs for a caning shop. Nothing works better to get the old cane out of the slot in the chair than the 1/16" bit. I can accurately cut a deep groove in the old cane. This makes it easy to free what's left of the cane with a 3/16" chisel. By the way, I like the new packaging a lot.

Clean Cutting

I have used these in wenge so far and I am very happy with the clean cuts. They are pricey but in my opinion worth the extra money
