Offset Diamond Fret File

I used this item for the first time last week and was very impressed by how much easier and quicker it was to use than anything I have tried before. I have made one small modification, that is a push on handle to make it easier to grip and to save the end digging into the palm of your hand, (put that down to old age and arthritis!)

I purchased the 300 grit, very smooth and no chatter. High quality and sharp and works wonders over the body of classical and acoustic guitars. A little pricey but who else has one this nice; that's the reason for the 4 star?

I've used a Stew Mac fret file for about 15 years and it's still as good as new and quickly reshapes fret crowns after dressing

Since I bought the 300 grit file,that is the file I reach for all the times I do crowning works.
Guess I'll buy that 150 grit soon.
It would be even better if the wide and medium side where clearly marked, they are a little tricky to identify.

Tried a lot of fret files, but this is the best. I agree that the 150 grit can be a little too aggressive, so I will mostly be using the 300 grit I guess. Other than that, there is no file that gives such a control over what you're doing, even when working over the body of the guitar.

I used this file on a acoustic last week.You can file over the body of any guitar without hitting the body.I couldn't have did the job without it. A must have for sure. I took a marker and marked one side medium and the other wide. That way I know right away what grit I'm sanding with. I love it.

This tool really gets the job done quickly and easily. I would like to have a better selection of widths and also an extra fine version and then would give it 5 stars

I recently purchased this file because the 300 grit was on back order and I needed a new file (my old 300 is pretty worn right now) The 150 grit is great, removes a lot of material with very few strokes, but the downside to it is that it scratches the fret a bit too much, so the time you save re-crowning you spend it removing scratches. Other than that I love them both 150 and 300 grit

Until buying this file (300 grit) I had never crowned a fret. I found it very easy to use and, when combined with polishing the frets with 400, 600 and 1500 grit black wet/dry sandpaper, my frets were super smooth. Bends are much, much easier --- even on my PRS that is only a year old. I noticed that after the crowning and polishing that all my guitars have more of a ring to them. I've since done five other guitars for people and each one notices better sustain and more of a ring from their guitars.

I highly recommend this easy-to-use and (to me) indispensable tool!

This file works great, but it's a little more aggressive than what I had hoped. I'll be adding the finer one to the tool kit, and will most likely be the one I reach for most often.
