Instructions
They're accurate and authentic stringed instrument colors, as researched and specified by our own guitar finishing experts—not the generic furniture colors you'll find at other suppliers.

These concentrated grain-enhancing stains are economical; a little goes a long way. Reduce them with alcohol or water to give bare wood beautiful fade-resistant color, without hiding the grain. They're versatile, too. For applying transparent color-tinted coats, ColorTone stains can be mixed directly into virtually any finish: nitrocellulose lacquer, shellac, waterbase finishes, and catalyzed varnishes or lacquers.

Available in 2-ounce bottles, in the most popular stringed instrument colors. SAVE when you order the set of all ten!

Make wood grain come alive!
ColorTone liquid stains are lightfast metal-complex dyes that can be mixed for practically any desired intensity. Unlike off-the-shelf hardware store stains, they're formulated for guitar finishing. One 2-ounce bottle makes two quarts of stain at normal concentration. Because they're liquids, they can be measured precisely for critical color matching—a plus for refinishing and touchup work. (See our handy stain mixing cups and pipettes.)

Color Tone Stain Blue and Green

The stain was excellent to work with. It applied evenly and with a continuous depth of color throughout the entire guitar body. I make custom electrics so it is vital that I use quality products in order to satisfy my distinguished clientele. Color Tone Liquid Stains are another way to make my axes come alive.

The colors.

Excellent choice when adding color to lacquer. Just squirt added with a little lacquer thinner and clear finish and your good to go.

Excellent!

I purchased the cherry red dye to re-finish a Gibson SG. This dye was extremely easy to use. I sanded the guitar and then diluted the dye with denatured alcohol and applied it with a simple sponge brush. When you cut it with the alcohol it dries very fast. I then finished the guitar with several coats of boiled linseed oil followed by harder coats of trueoil to slightly yellow the color and add gloss. I buffed it out with superfine steel wool in between coats. The finished product was excellent. I went for a very vintage red but you could easily obtain a very bright red if you wanted to (that is a future SG project).

Worked Out Great!  Chicago, IL
