Bridge Heater and Fingerboard Iron

Every time I've removed a bridge or fingerboard, I would wistfully think... "gee, what about one of those StewMac heating irons?" I finally got one and now the only question is why I waited so darned long! This is a an excellent value and a tool to be used over & over again. A real home run!

I started using this tool because I had to replace an old bridge of the guitar to a friend of mine. Following the advice that its precise Stewart-McDonald gave me, I made this delicate operation with such unexpected success and ease, I'm starting to look around for other guitars on which to operate, being so much fun! Joking aside, I highly recommend this tool, together with the thermometer and the spatula, the key to success.

As a beginner at guitar repair I was nervous about removing the bridge on the guitar. I purchased the Bridge Heater and Fingerboard Iron along with the surface thermometer and was very careful to maintain the proper temperature. Very slowly, carefully, and methodically I was able to remove the bridge and all went well. It does the job but you must be very patient.

I was very impressed with how well this tool worked. I heated it with a $5 hot plate from Harbor Freight and used an ordinary putty knife the same width as my bridge. Once the tool was heated to 250, you just rest it on one side of the bridge for about two minutes. Remove the tool and place it back on the hot plate while you slide your knife under the bridge from side to side. Repeat this process until it comes loose. You'll have it off in 20 min. with very little damage to the top or bridge.
