Razor Files

These are great - much more precision compared to rasps and you can be as aggressive or as gentle as you like. Since I got these my rasps are pretty much retired!

The saw itself cuts a great fine smooth line. But the sawblade keeps pulling out of the back that's attached to the handle (it's only pressed around the blade), even when I try not to use too much pressure on the wood. A couple of rivets might help. It's useful, but it can be bothersome.

These do not work like regular files and they take some getting used to. They are almost more like planes--they're sensitive to grain direction. Yet with care and practice they can quickly produce extrordinarily smooth surfaces. Be careful not to cut your fingers.

That is that I hadn't purchased these years ago. Amazing files, just watch your skin :)

The files seem to cut ok. It's the clogging of the teeth that seem to be a problem. Keep a wire brush handy to keep the teeth clean.

Without a doubt, these are the best shaping files I have ever used. Recently, I had to replace a ebony saddle on a Loar spec Gibson F5 mandolin. I was able to rough in the blank and shape it to match the original saddle in half the time previously using standard files and rasps. Also, these files don't leave the "chatter marks" making final sanding/shaping a breeze. I also plan to get the smaller size versions on my next order.

I was amazed seeing how much wood can remove such a little tool.
If you're a woodworker you need it.

The razor files are great. I have just finished a classical guitar neck made from rock maple. This is a very hard timber to work.The files make it a lot easier when you do everything manually as I do.They are hard on the skin of your fingers so be aware of their sharpness. I would recommend them to any luthier who works exclusively by hand.

These files are amazing. They remove a lot of wood quickly, and the result requires much less sanding than with a coarse rasp. But be careful. They remove a lot of wood quickly.

I'm just thinking that I like the old files better.I feel the Razor Files dig in too much.But it could be just me and I will keep working at it.These D-Bows do have a skinny neck.
