Humbucker Pickup Routing Template

The Humbucker template is a nice piece, but in my opinion it is too thin. I thought I had my router bit and bearing set to the correct depth but I was a hair off so the bearing wound up binding on the wood and melting the template. This was my error, but this error could have been avoided if the template was thicker. I wound up building my own template out of fiber board.

This is the perfect template to use for a Humbucker Cavity. Make sure to use bearing on your rotor bit so you dont cut in the template

A little thin, but well made. Must be handled carefully.

Like these a lot, I've bought two and stuck them together, gives a better guide for your first pass.

I'm a first time builder and this template was great. The screw holes on the template matched up perfectly for my SD triple shot mounting ring. The centre lines are great for getting everything square.

Essential for neat cavities, my only criticism is it is thin. I've bought 2 of these as I chewed the edges of the first withdrawing the router and also found that if I only used one bearing it slipped under the template spoiling the neat edges. So I now have the bit shank completely covered in bearings plus I have fixed the template to a 15 mm thick timber 'frame' that extends the depth of the template.

Not all humbuckers are the same. So this template, while well made and easily useable, will be oversized for some humbuckers (seymour duncan in my case) and their mounting rings. Check before routing.

Excellent, precise, a must need for guitar building

I purchased one and use it to make my own out of Plexiglass. This way if the router gets in it, I just bang out a new one.
