I've been doing an upgrade on my late father-in-law's early 1960s Silvertone soprano uke. The Grover ukulele tuning machines were the perfect finish. Smooth, accurate tuning. Now that the old plastic friction tuners are gone it stays in tune.
I cut out the wooden bridge saddle and replaced it with a better saddle and put on some Aquila Nylgut strings. This little uke now sounds better than my Lanikai concert. Oh yeah, I ordered the tuners on Monday and they were here Thursday. Great service and great tuners at a reasonable price. Can't ask for more than that.
These tuners work very well and have been consistent. However, I noticed the first time I installed the gold plated version that they were just a tiny bit larger in diameter than the silver plated ones. I had to do a bit of extra reaming to get them to fit properly.
To be fair, these tuners were worth the low price. However, I'd pay twice the price for a little better finish quality.
I Chose to upgrade to the Grover gold plated black knobs for my uke build. Set off the ivory inlay. Great price, great tuners and look a million dollars.
exactly what I need for this project...
the tuning machines came out just wright for my cuatro
I've used Grover tuners on all my instruments for over forty years or more. The quality is superior. The price is right. Thanks to Dan Erlewine for his article on plugging old screw holes. Although seldom seen except by the player, filling these holes is simply indicative of a true craftsman. Keep on keeping on!
I used these tuners on a ukulele I made. I am a big fan of washburn guitars which uses grover tuners. I bought them because of the name and was not disappointed. They are awesome.
Had no problem with the sealed nickel originals on a Kala uke, but I could see the gold/black open geared giving a better look.
Almost a straight changeover, just needed to file out the holes slightly.
Looks much better than the originals on the dark finish.
Low cost fast makeover - thanks again Stewmac.
Bought these new tuning gear as the original ones on my Lanikai. Did not keep the tone properly. The difference is really great, and the looks of my little travel uke is also much improved. They look and feel very good, it's a bargain!
